Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University – Benjamin Waterhouse Hawkins Album

Album compiled in the 1870s by English artist and sculptor Benjamin Waterhouse Hawkins containing prints, photographs, drawings, manuscripts, and newspaper clippings related to Hawkins and his work. The album includes images of Hawkins and his New York studio; Crystal Palace Park in London, England and the “Dinner in the Iguanodon Model” held there in 1853; the cast of the skeleton of Hadrosaurus foulkii, the first-ever mounted dinosaur skeleton displayed at the Academy of Natural Sciences in 1868; illustrations inspired by Charles Darwin’s The Descent of Man (1871); and museum design plans including those for the proposed Central Park (New York, N.Y.) Paleozoic Museum.
